There is a great action scene, which I loved, taking place in the waterfall and an old plane. But, after Lara met with Lu Ren in Hong Kong, the film kicked up its pace and actually turned into an enjoyable film. The film begins with the usual trope of Lara living life recklessly until she found her “calling” in life. When Lara learned about the fictional island, Yamatai, in Japan where her father was last seen, she flew to tracked down his last project with the help of a drunken sailor, Lu Ren, in Hong Kong. She then has to signed the papers of her late father’s inheritance in order to save the family’s manor. Young Lara in this film abandoned her family’s wealth and works as a bicycle courier. The new film is an adaptation of the video game reboot that re-established the fictional British archeologist origin for the second time. So, here we have the new Tomb Raider film in 2018. I thought that by now the video-game-turned-into-film phase is done for, but I guess the YA-turned-into-film phase is on hold.
